Listen to Obituary

Mr. Ellis Ray Walls was born to Steven and JoAnna Walls, who welcomed him into this world on January 13, 1958.

He soon was introduced to his very best friends: Henry, Isaac, Donald, Sarah, Roland, Juanita, Larry, and Linda. He increased his loving friendships with his brothers, Alvin and Andrew. Together they became a close-knit family.

At an early age, Mr. Ellis was baptized and dedicated his life to Christ at the Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Wallace S. Hartsfield Sr.

Mr. Ellis attended the Kansas City Public School District from elementary school through receiving his high school diploma at Central High School, class of 1976. He continued his education at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work. Education was vital to his success, encouraging him to go to Central Missouri State University and receive his second degree in education, focusing on special education. With his thorough education, he then devoted his life to serving his community as a social worker.

In 1982, Mr. Ellis was blessed with a son, Mr. Quantrell Whittler.

Later, he was honored to marry the love of his life, Lisa Obioha, who became Mrs. Lisa Walls on April 7, 2001. Through this union, he was blessed with a daughter through love, Ms. Cierra.

Later in life, he moved his membership to Southside First Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Stanley Smith and later Pastor Raphael D.B. Williams. Ellis was a faithful member and served on the Usher board.

With his passion to serve others, he committed his time at Swope Health Services as a clinical support specialist. Mr. Ellis not only focused on fulfilling his duties as a clinical support specialist but also on being a positive light for his colleagues and dedicated to serving his clients.

Mr. Ellis was especially known for his "Head to Toe" ensemble. One of his best-known hobbies was thrifting. Mr. Ellis enjoyed serving his community, as well as traveling, especially on cruises, dining, spending time with his closest friends and family, and socializing with people. Traveling to Lincoln University every year for their annual homecoming celebrations was what he looked forward to each year. He also enjoyed going to concerts and making daily calls to family and friends, leaving them with "I love you!" Ellis loved watching and going to sports events and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.

Ellis will be TRULY missed for his kindness and loving heart.

Ellis was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Braxton and Sarah; his maternal grandparents: Oscar and Nelia; his mother and father: Steven and JoAnna; his wife, Lisa; his brothers: Henry, Isaac, Donald, and Larry; and his sister, Linda.

To cherish his loving memory, he leaves to mourn his son, Quantrell, of Jefferson City; an additional blessing, Cierra (Tommy), of Atlanta; sisters: Sarah (Curtis), of Kansas City, and Juanita, of Las Vegas; brothers: Roland, Alvin, and Andrew, of Kansas City; mother-in-law Barbara; sister-in-law, Jacqueline (Fred); brothers-in-law: Johnny (Diane) and Robert Jr.; three grandchildren: Amaya, of Jefferson City, and Chiamara and Sochima, of Atlanta; and a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins, Central High School alumni, church family, and special friends near and far.
