Listen to Obituary

Emma Jean Drummer, 72, transitioned from her earthly home, to her heavenly home, and received her wings on August 4, 2018 at Research Medical center. She was born on June 15, 1946 in Center Ridge, Arkansas to the union of Altha and Versa Dooley. She was the eldest child to this union. She is preceded in death by her father; Altha Dooley.

Emma was educated in the Conway Arkansas School District and graduated from Menifee High School, Class of 1963, which was a year early due to advanced studies. After she graduated from high school, she moved from Arkansas to Kansas City, Missouri, to live with her grandfather; Emmitt Dooley.

At the early age of nine, Emma accepted Christ and was baptized at Friendship Baptist Church in Arkansas. Music has always been her ministry and it carried over to her membership at Memorial Missionary Baptist Church. She, along with her mother and father would sing countless Sunday’s praising the Glory of God. So much so, that she was even asked to join tour with Aretha Franklin as a backup singer. She was a contributing member of her church community as a choir member and faithful servant until she could no longer.

Emma built a longtime career of federal service with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). At the IRS, she held many positions and titles from Tax Examiner, EEO Counselor, to Manager. Emma retired after 32 years of service.

She will be remembered a a hard-working, dedicated, loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, daughter, and wife. Her laugh, her smile, and her voice will forever be in our hearts and minds.

Emma leaves to cherish and uphold her memory her spouse of 55 years; Steve O. Drummer, children; Steve W.(Sherrell) Drummer Jr., Reginald (Dionne) Drummer, Marshaun(Willie) Stewart, Anthony (Angela) Drummer, James (Darlisa) Drummer, Owretha Drummer, her mother; Versa Dooley, her sisters; Cora Marshall and Alma Dooley, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a host of nephews, nieces, and close neighborhood friends. Emma knew no strangers. Everyone was welcomed.
