Mr. Ernest Lee Brooks, age 69, was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 7, 1956, to his parents, Eddie Ward and L. E. (Dixon) Wright-Brooks. He passed away at University Health, formerly Truman Medical Center Hospital Hill, in Kansas City, Missouri on August 20, 2025, at 1:20 P.M.
Ernest was educated in the Kansas City Public School District, graduating from Lincoln High School. He last worked and retired from Kansas City Parks & Recreation. After retirement, Ernest enjoyed dancing, barbecuing and loved looking fashionable from head-to-toe. He will be remembered as a well-dressed man, distinguished & well-groomed at all times. He also loved riding in his luxury cars and listening to music. He enjoyed watching Westerns and old classic Charlie Brown cartoons. He was a huge Kansas City Chiefs fan. Many memories were made while spending social time with friends and his absolute favorite, while spending time with his family. Most of all, Ernest cherished every moment with his daughters, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ernest accepted Christ many years ago and began to understand the value of attending church and worshiping our God, Lord Jesus Christ. In 1982, he was blessed with a beautiful bride, his wife, Charlene Marie (Woods) Brooks. She loved him dearly and faithfully cared for him through the difficult times when his health began to fail, even until death. Ernest was a provider for his family and always tried to share good fatherly advice and opinions. His daughters held a very special place in his heart, being that he was their first love as a male figure. He was a proud father and truly delighted to be a grandfather and great-grandfather. Every spring in April on Resurrection Sunday, Ernest would call his daughters and grandchildren and have them watch the historical movie, "The Ten Commandments". He would insist that they stopped whatever they were doing to watch it and reminded them that he would be calling back to discuss the details of the movie. The understanding of "The Ten Commandments" was important to him, and he truly wanted his family to know the value of following biblical commands.
Ernest is preceded in death by both of his parents; his stepfather, Pastor Clem Wright; one son, D’Andrae Edwards; one brother, Willie Brooks; two sisters: L.E. Glenn and Ella Garret; his grandparents, great-grandparents, several aunts, uncles and other dear relatives.
Left to cherish Ernest's memory: his beloved wife, Charlene Woods-Brooks; his daughters: LaTrina Woods, Pamela Woods and ShaDonna Robinson; very special grandchildren: Monterrio Woods, Honesti Woods, Anyia Woods, and Dante Edwards. "Dear to heart" and special great-grandchildren: Mi’Yonna, My’Leah, My’Lah, Amaris, Ermias, and the newest addition, baby boy, Amari; his siblings: Clairetha Mattic, Calvin Brooks (Kim), Clyde Brooks (Stacy), and Renee Brooks; several nieces, nephews and cousins; a host of other sisters-in-law and brothers in-law on his wife’s side of the family, and other loving family and friends.
