Listen to Obituary

Eugene Drake Rushing, Sr., was born on October 19, 1936, to mother, Druetta Rachel Rushing; and father, Arnold Payne in Vivian, Louisiana.  He attended school and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School.

Eugene later came to Kansas City, where he met and married the “Love of his life” Helen Jones.  They were married and shared 65 years together and were the parents of seven children.

Eugene accepted Christ at an early age, under the leadership of Pastor Mike James in Louisiana.  Upon moving to Kansas City, he joined Bethlehem Antioch Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Bennie Young.  He loved his church and worked wherever he was needed until he was disabled.

Eugene worked for Belger Cartage Truck Line for 36 years, until he retired. He loved to drive and travel with his wife and children.  He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather-blessed with over 100 grand, great-grand, and great-great grandchildren, all whom he loved very much.

Eugene went to be with the Lord on July 13, 2022; He will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his mother, one sister, one brother, and his son, Edwin.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Helen; his children, Roy (Phyllis), Charles (Corrmae) of Omaha NE, Eugene Jr., Linda, Michael (Patrice), and Edna; his brother, Lee Ardis Rushing, Sr. (Davetta); and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
