Evelyn Birdine Cheadle was born on May 25, 1932, in Kansas City, MO, to William and Willie Mae Armstrong. She was called home to be with our Lord on July 9, 2023. Evelyn was preceded in death by, her parents; her husband of 52 years, Augustus F. Cheadle, Sr.; her daughter, Gwendolyn Cheadle; her granddaughter, Kendra Davis; and her son-in-law, James W. Bradford, Sr.

Evelyn was the last of her siblings to be called home. Her brothers, Victor Armstrong, and Jacob W. Armstrong, along with her sisters, Elerie Winters, Sarah Owsley, and Etta Ross also preceded her in death.

Evelyn gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a faithful member of the Thirty- fifth Street Baptist Church, in Kansas City, MO for many years while living in the Leeds area. She later united with Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late, Dr. Robert B. Poe, where she has been a faithful member for over 65 years. Sister Evelyn had a creative talent for playing the piano. She played at Canaan for various church programs. She later became a long-time member of the Usher Board. She enjoyed the wonderful teas that the Usher Board would hold. She continued her Christian learning under the leadership of Bishop Tony D. Cobbins.

Sister Cheadle was a devoted mother to her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and her great great-grandchildren. She loved hosting Thanksgiving, Easter, and Christmas dinners. Along with family cookouts, graduation celebrations, birthday parties, weekend get togethers, and she hosted five weddings in her home. She enjoyed playing bid whist, double dutch, hopscotch, jacks, marbles, flying homemade kites, dominos, checkers, and jigsaw puzzles with her family. Sister Cheadle loved talking to her church friends, and her nephews and nieces, Gary, Woody, Rhonda Kay, and Betty on the phone. She enjoyed watching wrestling, 25 Words or Less, and old westerns on TV. She loved playing and singing her Christian music on her piano.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Augustus F. Cheadle, Jr. (Lena) of Kansas City, MO; her daughter, Patricia Colbert of Houston, TX, and Diane Cheadle of Kansas City, MO; her sister-in-law, Linda Armstrong of Independence, MO; her grandchildren, Franchell Colbert, Marlon Cheadle, Collette Washington (Terry), Melanie Davis, James Bradford, Jr., and Crystal Bradford; as well as a host of great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
