Florence Washington

Florence S. Washington, 69, left her earthly home on, October 24, 2021, at Research Brookside Hospital, in Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by her loving and devoted family.

Sweet Flo was born on, February 6, 1952, to the late Mose Hamp and Susie Lee Doss Hamp in Tunica, Mississippi.  She was a faithful member of the Downtown Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Andrew Hamp, and Lee Hamp; sisters, Lela Mae Wilson, and Madie Washington.

Florence grew up in Tunica, Mississippi, and graduated from Rosa Fort High School in 1970.  Florence comes from a large family growing up in a household with 6 siblings: John, Lee, Madie, Robert, Lela, and Essema.  She moved to Kansas City, Missouri around 1973, where she met and married her loving and devoted husband, Johnnie Washington, Jr., and through that union they nurtured 4 children, William, James, Tonya, and Suzette; 5 grandchildren, Jamesha, William, Erica, Tonyae and Olivia; and one great-grandchild, Alonzo.

Growing up in Tunica, Mississippi, Florence came from a hard-working family, and that hard work translated into her life as she worked for several companies in the Kansas City area, retiring from the Internal Revenue Service in 2020.  Florence regularly received perfectly scored performance reviews, having received one as recently as 2020.  Florence accomplished supporting 4 high school graduates into college graduates, and her son who joined the military.  She was very proud of her family and selflessly loved them, always present, consistent, and never missed an opportunity to say, “I love you”.

Florence was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister.  She was affectionately known as, “Aunt Flo” to her many nieces and nephews that she loved very much and enjoyed on many special occasions together throughout her life.  Spending time with her church family in and outside of church filled her heart with so much joy, love, and fellowship.

Florence will be so very sorely missed by her many loving family members and friends.
