George Curtis Edwards is the fifth of twelve children, born July 25, 1942, in Minden Louisiana, to the late Vurry and Annie Bell Webb Edwards. He was affectionately known as "Big Jim" and attended Pilgrim Rest United Methodist Church at a young age. He moved to Kansas City, Missouri in 1960 and began working at a furniture store. He was later employed with Hallmark Cards, as a Building Engineer, and retired July 25, 2003, after 39 years of service. He was involved in M&K 9 Hunting Club, and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling and planned numerous family trips for "his girls" until his health began to decline.
George was united in marriage to Lorine Stuart on June 6, 1965 in Kansas City, Missouri, and the two remained married until parted by death, 52 years later. He was a dedicated and giving man who loved his family and enjoyed various outings with his extended family as his health allowed. Some of his favorite pastimes included spoiling his six grandchildren, watching Westerns, The Wheel of Fortune, The Food Network, Animal Planet, and The Weather Channel, and chilling in his his favorite chairs, one in the Living Room and one on the Porch.
George was preceded in death by his parents Vurry and Anne Bell Webb Edwards: two sisters, Vurrlena Edwards and Allie Washington, and one brother, Are D. Edwards.
George transitioned to rest on April 13, 2018 at Saint Luke’s Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.
He leaves to cherish with loving memories his devoted wife, Lorine Edwards, two daughters: Lachell Edwards and Lavon Edwards Boyd (Kristopher) of Kansas City, MO, six grandchildren: Naysha Boyd, Kristopher J Boyd II, Layla Boyd, Kylon Boyd, Keyvon Boyd, and Keyton Boyd of Kansas City, MO: one brother. Bill Edwards (Ester) of Kansas City, MO: seven sisters, Caretha Thornton, Billie Edwards, and Adell Shepherd of Kansas City, MO, Yvonne Grigsby of Minden LA, Mary Sheppard (Johnny) of Kansas City, KS, Helen F Banks (James) of Lee’s Summit, MO, and Rosie Monroe of Denver, CO: one aunt, Mary Webb of Kansas City,MO, and a host of love ones including nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, lifelong friends and coworkers.
