Geraldine Elizabeth Owens passed away September 11, 2020 in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on January 20, 1931 in Kansas City, Missouri to Ralph and Wilma Blewett. Geraldine was the 7th of 13 children. Geraldine was educated in the Kansas City Missouri School District. She worked many years at First National Bank of Kansas City, and later became a housewife.

Geraldine met and married Ben Owens Jr. on November 25, 1961 after 3 months of dating. Together, they raised 6 children. She and her husband established Rising Star MBC where she worked as Youth Sunday school teacher, Angel choir director, she operated the kitchen outreach, clothing outreach, and many other aspects of the ministry. After the death of her husband, she later joined God’s House of Deliverance and Worship International.

There was never a time that you didn’t find her home full of children of all ages. Some blood related some not. Geraldine had a love for children and babies. She also spent most of her time cooking and serving others. There were many that lovingly called her Momma or the Cookie Lady.

Geraldine’s daughter would reference her as the Kissing Bandit. You never enter or leave her presence without kissing her on the forehead, or on the jaw. She was loved by many, and will truly be missed.

Geraldine’s husband, one daughter, both parents, 6 brothers, 6 sisters, and four grandchildren all preceded her in death.

She leaves to mourn her sons, Gerald Blewett Sr. of Kansas City, Missouri, Lavance Owens of Lasing, Kansas, John Owens Sr. of Kansas City, Missouri, daughters Sharon Owens of Kansas City, Missouri, Mechelle Bilberry(Timothy) of Kansas City, Missouri, 16 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, 6 great great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
