Gloria Jean Richardson, 57, was born on July 28, 1963 in Kansas City, MO to Willie Richardson and Barbara (Tillman) Richardson. She was known as the fun sister of the family and was raised alongside 7 brothers and 2 sisters. She attended Southeast High School in Kansas City. Although she worked various jobs over the years some of her best included Bartle Hall and attending the concerts, and C.A. Franklin Elementary where she served with the cafeteria staff.
Gloria was blessed to be the mother of a daughter and two sons – LaTanya, Corey, and Antwan. Some of their special memories is that she was a strong mother even as a single parent, and she often worked two jobs to provide for her kids. She was also a disciplinarian and taught them how to cook, clean, and made sure they went to church even if they stayed up late. Gloria showed them some tough love when needed … but most of all she was proud of her kids and just wanted to know they were well-taken care of and would stick together as siblings. She was also known as “grandma” and was excited to have grandkids and a great-granddaughter. She truly became a better mother as she got older and enjoyed having daily conversations with her kids. LaTanya said “my mom was my best friend” … her children & family will deeply miss her.
She loved the KC Chiefs! For fun she was always ready to play spades, dominoes and listen to some good music like Angie Stone, Mary J. Blige, Jaheim, or old school music like Johnnie Taylor or The Isley Brothers. Gloria enjoyed visiting Florida, going to the beach, and eating Jamaican cuisine. She also loved to cook a good meal, taking care of the grandkids, and just spending time with her family.
Sis. Richardson gave her life to Christ and was baptized at any early age. She was a faithful member of Good Hope Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor J.C. Jackson. She had a kind & giving spirit and will be missed by her Good Hope family.
On Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020, Gloria Jean Richardson left this earthly home. She was preceded in death by her father, Willie Richardson. One of her favorite scriptures was Psalm 100. In verse 4 it reads, “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” We find comfort knowing that our beloved Gloria entered unto heaven with thanksgiving and praise … our family will be thankful for the 57 years we shared and bless God’s name.
She leaves to cherish her memory: mother, Barbara Richardson; daughter, LaTanya Richardson; son, Corey Richardson all of Kansas City, MO; son, Antwan Richardson of Jacksonville, FL; sisters: Sonya Richardson of Kansas City, MO; and Shudda Richardson of San Antonio, TX; brothers: Ray Richardson, Michael Richardson, Dale Richardson, Billy Richardson, Robert Richardson, Willie Richardson Jr. all of Kansas City, MO; and Fred Richardson of Calif.; 5 grandchildren: Tieshae, Cortez, Brandon Jr., Aniyla, and Aayden; one great-granddaughter Torielle Richardson; two best friends, Darlene Henderson and Marie Jimenze; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends.
