Grace B. Ambler, born March 3, 1940, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Verbelena A. and Burnett H. Ambler Sr., peacefully went home to be with the Lord on February 7, 2026.
Grace spent her early childhood in Chanute, Kansas, where she attended public schools before the family returned to Kansas City. She later continued her education at Central High School.
Grace was united in marriage to Harold E. Lane, and together they welcomed six children. She devoted much of her life to being a loving homemaker, raising her family with care and dedication. Her natural gift for nurturing others led her to work in the medical field, where she found joy in serving those in need. Her passion for cooking inspired her to pursue culinary work, eventually becoming a Dietician at the Brown County Infirmary in Hiawatha, Kansas. She faithfully served there for 18 years, planning and preparing meals for residents until the facility closed.
Upon returning to Kansas City, Grace continued her calling in caregiving by establishing and operating the Lane Home Healthcare Agency, providing compassionate home care for the elderly. Her love for children also guided her to become a foster parent to many young children. She later worked for the Hickman Mills School District for ten years before retiring.
In her earlier years, Grace was a member of Jennie N. More #50 O.E.S. Kansas City, Kansas. In addition, she enjoyed garage sales and watching movies and television, especially her favorite sitcom, Leave It to Beaver, and spending time with family. She was baptized in the Baptist church by her stepfather, Rev. Everett, and later became a devoted member of Bethel AME Church of Kansas City, MO, where she served on the Mother Board. For the last five years of her life, she worshiped at Canaan Worship Center.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Verbelena and Burnett Ambler Sr.; siblings Joseph Ambler, Fredrick Ambler, Virginia Hall, Barbara Tolefree, Marjorie Harvey, Marion Vann, and Jackie Harvey; her son Harold E. Lane Jr., and her daughter Carolyn C. Graves.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Cynthia Harris of Kansas City, MO; Cheryl McPherson of Garland, TX; Carmella Lane of Kansas City, MO; and H. Fred (Dennise) Lane of Lee’s Summit, MO. She is also survived by her brothers Burnett Ambler Jr. of Overland Park, KS, and Maurice (Doris) Ambler of Grand Prairie, TX. Grace was a proud grandmother of 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and one great great-granddaughter and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Grace lived a life of service, love, and unwavering faith. Her legacy will continue through the many lives she touched.
