Gregory Eugene Butler

Gregory Eugene Butler, 79, of Kansas City, Missouri, peacefully transitioned on August 3, 2026, surrounded by those who loved him. He was the oldest of six children, born on December 26, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Nathaniel Butler Sr. and Blonzine (Henderson) Butler.

Gregory was educated in the Omaha Public School system in Omaha, Nebraska, and proudly graduated from Central High School where he was an avid basketball player and enjoyed not only the competition, but the friendships and camaraderie that came with the game. His drive to continue growing led to a Bachelor’s degree in accounting.

At an early age, Gregory accepted Christ and carried his faith with him throughout his journey. His belief in God remained a source of strength, comfort, and guidance through every season of life's victories, blessings, and challenges.

In 1991, Gregory married Brenda Poke, and from their union came two daughters, Brittany and Brooke. Although their marriage later ended after 26 years, the bond of family remained. Brenda continued to be a dear friend and caregiver in his life. Gregory loved his daughters deeply and took great pride in the women they became. Being their father was one of the greatest and most meaningful roles of his life.

Gregory built a successful career in automotive sales, where he was known for his honesty, strong work ethic, and commitment to helping others find the right vehicle for their needs. His friendly personality and genuine care for people earned him the trust and respect of both his customers and colleagues. His integrity, warmth, and commitment to serving others left a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Outside of work, Gregory knew how to enjoy life. He loved a good game of chess, dominoes, bid whist, and Crazy Sevens. Anyone who played with him knew the game was going to come with plenty of laughter, competition, and his playful trash talk. Winning was always nice—but the real joy was in the fun, fellowship, and memories created around the table. Those moments captured Gregory perfectly: competitive, quick-witted, social, and always ready for a good time.

Gregory was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers, and sister. He leaves to cherish his memory: his two daughters, Brittany Campbell and Brooke Butler; his former wife, dear friend, and caregiver, Brenda Butler; his grandson, Kymani Campbell; his siblings and loved ones, Carmen Butler, Roxanne Butler, Willis Robinson, and Denita Jackson, who also provided loving care; along with a host of relatives, friends, former coworkers, customers, and countless others whose lives were touched by his presence.

Gregory will be remembered for far more than the years he lived or the work he accomplished.

Though his physical presence will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught, the laughter he created, the love he gave, and the memories he left behind will continue to live through those who loved him.

His life was a blessing.
His memory is a treasure.
His love remains with us.
And his legacy will live on forever.
