Gwendolyn Arthur-Pennington

Gwendolyn Arthur- Pennington was the second child, from the union of Alva Lee Arthur and Margaret D. Richardson, she was born on December 10, 1950. Gwendolyn attended school at Manual, Paseo, Lincoln, and Central High (where she graduated in 1969). After graduation she attended college at Penn Valley Community College, Kansas City School of Medical Assistance and TAD University for Auto CAD. Between schooling Gwendolyn gave birth to Savedra Jean Arthur in 1971. She then went on to marry Arthur Eugene Pennington in 1977 and gave birth to Jamal Pennington that same year. After giving birth to her second child Gwendolyn went back to school at Heritage College where she received her associate degree in massage therapy. She worked as a massage therapist out of her home in 2003.

Melvina Ruffin and Hattie Lloyd started Miracle Temple Christian Center Church in 1970 where Gwendolyn was one of the first members. It is now pastored by Rev. James Newsome, and she remained a devoted member until going home to glory. As a member she devoted her time to Christian writings and various programs. She also enjoyed decorating and collecting black art. This is a short summary of Gwendolyn’s life while on earth.

She is now present with the Lord. Romans 10:9 says, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved”. If you do this, I will for sure see you in heaven. If you follow these two scriptures, Mark 12:30-31 & Proverbs 3:5-7 it will help make your walk with God easier; In addition to reading and applying the word of God constantly.

In the last years of her life, Gwendolyn’s health was challenged by Muscular Sclerosis (MS), blindness, and cancer. On March 25th, 2026, her cancer was diagnosed as terminal stage 4 colon cancer. She departed this life at Merriam Gardens Healthcare Rehabilitation and nursing facility on July 25th,2026 at 7:40pm.

She was preceded in death by, Alva Lee Arthur (father), Margeret D. Tinnon (mother), Savedra Jean Arthur (daughter), Jamyron Steel (grandson), Jaevon D. Pennington (grandson), Roseta Tinnon (sister), and Regina M. Harvey (sister).She leaves to cherish in her memory, a son Jamal Pennington; sisters Castorlania Davis, Abigail Arthur Ruffin, and Carolyn Tinnon Alberts, a loving, giving, devoted nephew and friend Audwin L. Harvey; great niece, Nahshon Ruffin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
