Hazel Lee Dixon was born February 4, 1931 in Clarksville Texas, to parents Lodiska and Booker Dixon. The family later relocated to Idabel, Oklahoma where Hazel received her elementary and high school education.
As a young adult, Hazel moved to Tulsa Oklahoma and in 1950 she met and married Benny joe Munn and to this union she two children were born. The couple later moved to Kansas City Missouri and the marriage later dissolved. In 1958 Hazel met and Elder Earl R. Gordon, pastor of New Testament Church and the two worked together in ministry, until his death in 1960. Hazel joined the New testament Pentecostal Church in 1960 under the leadership of Bishop Leona McGee. Hazel worked in many compacities within the church which included, Sunday school teacher, choir member, pastor’s aid board, youth ministry and after many years of service God called Hazel to Minister the Gospel. In 1977 Hazel left the New Testament Church, with blessings of her pastor to help establish Stairway Pentecostal Church under the leadership of Pastor Ruby Markray who ordained her as “Overseer” to the ministry and the two brought many souls to Christ. Upon her death of Pastor Ruby Markray in June 2003, Overseer Hazel Gordon became Pastor of Straightway Pentecostal Church where she faithfully served until her health failed and she could no longer serve in the position.
Hazel worked for many years as a domestic house keeper before going to work for the internal Revenue Service in 1971 where she worked faithfully, receiving many awards and certificates, until her retirement, June 4, 1993
Hazel was preceded in death by her Parents; Lodiska and Stepfather; Demie (Bud) Spagner, and Booker Dixon. Sister’s; Leola (Bootsie) Yancy, Onie Lee Palmer, Brother; John Dixon and a host of other relatives and friends. Hazel lee Gordon departed this life on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at the Carondelet Care Center. Special thanks go out to all the staff and caregivers of Carondelet Care Center, St. Joseph Medical Center and the Ascend Hospice Care team for all the care and kindness shown towards our mother as well as to our family during her extended illness.
