Helen Morris Hatcher was born in Brownsville, Tennessee to Verneda and Wilbur Morris, she went home to be with the Lord in the early morning hour of November 7, 2020.Both parents preceded her in death.

Helen moved to Neelyville, Missouri at a young age, she attended elementary school in Neelyville, Missouri and high school at Wheatley High School in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. After high school, she was blessed with a baby girl, Bettye Jean.

She was united in the marriage to Leroy Hatcher in 1949, she moved to Niles, Michigan and later moved to Kansas City, Missouri. Five Children were born to this union, Patricia Ann, Helen Lavonne, Michael Dwayne, Susan Annette, and Sherry Jean. The marriage was later dissolved.

She met Eugene Porter, her life partner. Two children were born to this couple, Bruce Everett, and Brian Kevin.

Helen was a caregiver all her life, for her family and as a career. She received several awards and accolades for her devoted service.

In 1988, she moved to Beloit, Wisconsin where she continued her career in care giving. She joined Bethel A.M.E Church. She was a long-time member of Bethel AME Church and a proud member of the Deaconess Board. She truly enjoyed serving as a Deaconess. Her most special time was the time she spent with her family. She loved quilting, cooking, doing word search and picture puzzles. Her faith in God was firm and unchangeable.

She leaves to cherish her memory five daughters; Bettye Moohn (Greg) Woodbridge, Virginia; Patricia Majeed (Lloyd) Beloit, Wisconsin; Helen Shipp, Susan Williams, and Sherry Hatcher all of Kansas City, MO. One son, Michael Hatcher, Greenville, Illinois; three brothers James Morris (Glady) KCMO, Robert Powell (Barbara), Chicago, Illinois, Joe Powell (Bettye) KCMO, 16 grandchildren, 42 great-grand children and a host of other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Willie Morris, two sons, Bruce Porter and Brian Porter, one sister, Paulette Jackson and one granddaughter, Ashley Williams

She will be dearly missed by her loved ones who celebrate the fact that she is no longer suffering and is at peace with her Heavenly Father.
