Helen Y. Johnson was born September 4, 1938, to the union of Byron Rodgers and Ethel M. Rogers. To this union two siblings were born, Mae E. Wilson and Helen, being the youngest. Both parents and sister proceeded her in death. Helen was baptized at an early age in Church of Christ, she attended RT Coles School.
Helen Married Willie Johnson Jr. on April 27, 1953, to this union four children were born, they were married for 68 years. Helen worked at Walkers Donuts on 35th and Prospect for 3 years, when her youngest turned five years old, she then worked for Gasket Engineering for over 30 years.
Helen was a people person, sometimes the life of the party. She loved to cook homemade meals; she was not big on going out to eat. Helen also loved to bowl in a Bowling League Women Teams. Helen liked going to the boat, playing cards, and music. Helen listened to anything from Aretha Franklin, Mahalia Jackson, the blues was also a favorite in the home. Helen also enjoyed Sunday morning sermons on the radio and Gospel Music, old time traditional gospel.
Helen cherished her time with her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, and family, she loved celebrating holidays, birthdays with her beloved sister, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Helen was well known for her potato salad at family dinners.
Helen leaves to cherish her memory her husband Willie Johnson Jr., daughters; Margaret Bell, Sylvia Johnson(Carlton), Miranda Marshall and son; Alfred Johnson (Roz), eight grandchildren, eight great- grandchildren, one on the way, and a host of nieces and nephews.
