Helena Artavia Kennedy, was born August 13, 1946 to Lester B. Kennedy and Sarah Cleda Redick in Kansas City, Missouri and passed away at home in Kansas City, Missouri on Sunday, May 17, 2020, at the age of 73. Helena grew up in Kansas City as the second oldest in the Kennedy family of seven. Early on she became a servant of God through St. Stephens Baptist Church. She graduated from Lincoln High School class of 1964 and attended a business school in Kansas City receiving a certificate of graduation. Even though she attended business school she ended up going to work at Truman Medical Center. She started as a Phlebotomist and later as a lab technician and retired after 36 years. Helena enjoyed socializing with her friends and family. Enjoyed listening to music especially Aretha Franklin and the gospel group The Williams Brothers. She was an avid sports fan. She was not only a mother to her children but also embraced her nieces, nephews and any child she came in contact with. She had a very big heart and generous giving spirit. Chris says his mother was “his rock, best friend, boss lady and greatest mother in the world“. Helena joins her father Lester, mother Cleda, sisters Marie and Monica. She leaves behind her brother Glenn Kennedy (Brenda) and sister Carolyn Worford of Canton, Michigan; loving children Christopher Wade Kennedy and Michelle Lorraine Kennedy; grandchildren Charissa Kennedy, Ce’Antonyo Kennedy, K’Zane Woods, Christian Kennedy, Yazmyne Kennedy; great grandchild Navarre Kidd and host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
