Henry Lee Hicks Sr, also known as Big Jim, passed away on February 1, 2025, at his home in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born August 27, 1934, in Ashdown, Arkansas to Lillie Thompson (Jones) and Ruben Hicks.

Henry enlisted into the United States Army in 1954 and served in the Vietnam War. He served his country faithfully until he received an Honorable Discharge in 1974.

Henry and former spouse, Viola Hicks, who preceded him in death, had four children together.

On April 13, 1978, he united in holy matrimony to Juanita Hicks. They were married for over 46 years.

He was a member of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church, and became a Deacon in 2012, where he served faithfully until his health made it impossible.

Henry enjoyed spending time with family, church family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sons, Terry Jackson and Gerald (Jerry) Hicks, siblings, Norma Jean Thompson and Cleophus Walker, son-in-law, Carl Jones, daughters-in-law, Delilah Smith, and granddaughter-in-law, Robyn Taylor-Hollins.

He is survived by his loving, wife, “My Girl”, Juanita Hicks, children, Henry L. Hicks, Jr., Tonja L. Hicks-Jones, DeAnna Hicks-Bland (Eric), Winifred (Winnie) Hollins, Anna Patrice Carroll; grandchildren, LaFaye Townsend (Rodney), Dawawn Orr, Cortez Hicks (Hannah), John Orr, Jr., (Jovondia), Jessica Orr-McCloud, Christopher Berry-Hicks, Adrian Hollins, Anthony Hollins, Andre Hollins, Frankie Hollins, John Carroll, Brandon Carroll (Naomi), 28 great-grands, and a host of family and friends.
