Listen to Obituary

Herman Standifer was born on December 3, 1937 in Shreveport, LA. He was the youngest of five children born to Frank and Essie (Gibson) Standifer. The Standifer family relocated to Arkansas in 1942 and after about 6 years in 1948, before his eleventh birthday his mother Essie passed away. In 1950, Frank Standifer along with his daughter Claudia and young Herman set off to Kansas City, Mo.; where Herman continued his education at R.T. Coles and at the age of 17 he enlisted in the United States Army where he served four years as a Paratrooper. Herman married his first wife; Ada Marie Brooks during his service and to this union his first child was born; sweet little Marilyn Denise Standifer was born in April of 1955. Herman attended Christ Temple Pentecostal Church on 21st & Harrison and was baptized in Jesus name under the leadership of the late Eld. Walter Scott. After about 5 years the marriage was dissolved. He worked at the Clark station with his brother-in-law, Macormick Holmes. He later worked at several other auto garages and auto sales.

After his service in the military Herman returned to Kansas City and Christ Temple Pentecostal Church, where he received the Holy Ghost in 1960. On October 6, 1962 he married his sweetheart Wilma Jean (Taylor) Standifer and to this union six (Herman Jr., Phillip, Terry, Crystal, Michelle and Patricia). In 1964 Herman started working at Tension Envelope as a machine adjuster. Herman came back to the Lord and committed his service at Christ Temple Church under the late Lee A. Tolbert where he served faithfully. He held various duties at the church and was very handy serving as a maintenance tech for the church facility and also for their transportation. He was very studious in the word of God and accepted his calling as minister of the gospel. He later would attend Grace Temple Pentecostal Church on east 23rd street; under the leadership of the late Dist. Eld. Wilbur Taylor and it was there that he received his ministerial license in 1974 from the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. Herman served as superintendent of Sunday School and a minister on the roster. Herman would also travel and do much evangelism during his service at Grace Temple. In December of 1992 his last daughter was born, Ms. Zephyr Lynn Standifer.

Herman later served at Greater Grace Temple after the passing of the Eld. Wilbur Taylor and now under Eld. Robert E. Taylor who charged him with transitioning from Superintendent to Assistant Pastor. It was there that he continued in the faith with maintenance, teaching and preaching the infallible word of God. On September 2, 2018 after a joyous day in the Lord and singing one of his all-time favorite songs “When We All Get To Heaven”, Herman answered the final call and transitioned from earth to glory! He exchanged the corruptible for incorruptible and mortal for immortality and thus he has been changed.

Leaving to cherish his memory is his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Evangelist Wilma Jean (Taylor) Standifer; seven children, Herman Standifer Jr of Bunnell, Fl., Phillip Anthony Standifer Sr. (Nina) or Jacksonville, Fl.; Terry Lamonte Standifer Sr. (Cyrena) of Kansas City, Mo.; Crystal Elaine (Standifer) Williams (Kevin) of Kansas City, Mo.; Michelle Denene (Standifer) Stevens (Harry Jr) of Kansas City, Mo.; Patricia Anne (Standifer) Thomas (Randy) of Kansas City, Mo.; and Zephyr Lynn Standifer also of Kansas City, Mo. He also leaves one sister, Claudia M. (Standifer) Williams; and one brother Huey P. Standifer both are of Kansas City, Mo. He leaves 33 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and various family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Essie (Gibson) Standifer; two sisters, LoEster Marie (Standifer) Williamson and Dorothy (Standifer) Fuller; one daughter, Marilynn Denise Standifer and one grand-daughter, Treshon D’meka Barnett.
