Listen to Obituary

Ira L Charles was born to Henry Charles and Savannah (Butler) Charles.on October 22,1947 in Prescott Arkansas. She moved to Kansas City, Mo. in

1957.  She departed this life on October 6, 2023.

In 1965 she graduated from East High School.  After graduation she went on to further her education by attending Penn Valley Community College and also a business college.

On October 8, 1965, she married Herman Rogers Sr. To this union two children were born Herman Rogers Jr., and Shawn Rogers. Later that marriage was dissolved.

She found Christ and became a member of Bethany Missionary Baptist Church. While a member of the congregation she sang in the choir. Ira was a praying woman and she read her bible often.  There were many times when she would put her last dime in church not knowing where her next meal was coming from.

Throughout her life she had many different careers. She was employed at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Sears, JCPenney’s & Montgomery Wards. She was very gifted and talented, especially with crafts. She not only worked at McCrory’s but she tried her hand in entrepreneurship by renting a booth there and selling her beautiful flower arrangements. Afterwards she went on to work for the Kansas City Missouri School District until she retired.

Ira was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Savannah Charles; her fiancé, Mr. Leroy Fishback; her brothers, Elzia, Lonnie, Fredic, Esaw, James T, James E, Jessie, Henry I Charles; her sisters, Opal Owens, Frankie Spann; and grandson, Herman Miguel Anaya.

Ira leaves to cherish her memory: her son, Herman Rogers Jr., son, Tony L. Fishback; and daughter, Shawn Rogers, as well as a host of grandchildren, greatgrand-children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
