Listen to Obituary

Doctor Ivan Wynn, affectionately known as “Doc/Docky/Uncle Doc,“ was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 29, 1955 at the Queen of the World Hospital to the union of Charlene Scott and Calvin Wynn. He passed away at the age of 65 in Kansas City. Doc was the first-born to this union, and was preceded in death by his older brother, Calvin Wynn, and younger sisters Paula Wynn, Linda Smith and Joyce Webb; a niece Summer Sanders, nephew Dylon Webb, and both parents.

Doc attended church with his aunt Fannie Adams Brown and accepted Christ at an early age. He began his schooling at Wendell Phillips Elementary School, and later attended middle school at both Lincoln & Central Junior High School, before graduating from Central Senior High School, later joining the ranks of the Mighty Central Blue Eagles Alumni Class of 1974! While at Central, he was involved in the Junior ROTC under the leadership of Sergeant Hollowell.

Doc’s first job was at the family business, The Forest Avenue Nursing Home. He later worked throughout Kansas City as a local construction worker and heavy laborer, with local unions 1290 and Heavy Laborers 663.

Doc was a true socialite – in youth and older age – and was often called “the Mayor of Benton Boulevard.” He spent years looking out for others; standing guard over senior citizens on Benton and ran the neighborhood with some of his best childhood friends, notably John “Rabbit” Hammond, Lynn Campbell, Maurice Roberson, Alphonso Campbell and a host of other close friends, including Deborah King-Williams, Deborah Campbell Williams, and Ramelle Timmons-Davis. Doc married Stephanie M. Shipps in 1980, and to that union a daughter, LaToya Shariff Wynn was born. The marriage was later dissolved, and in 1988, he welcomed a son, Brandon Ivan King Wynn.

Doc leaves to cherish his memory two children, a daughter, LaToya Shariff Wynn (San Francisco, CA) and son, Brandon Ivan King Wynn (Lees Summit, MO); a stepfather, Albert Louis Webb; sisters, Stephanie (Kenneth Lee) Wynn, Carolyn Pritchett, Martha (Leo) Sanders, Patricia Webb, Theresa (Steve) Ray, Alma Jean (Michael) Conley, Amanda (LiPara) Westmoreland, and Tressia Webb, all of Kansas City, MO; and three brothers, Albert Webb, Jr., Maurice Webb (Misti) of Indianapolis, IN, and Jamaal Webb (Nyairah) also of Kansas City, MO; a loving host of Epperson stepbrothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends from north to south and coast to coast.

Due to the COVID-19, please respect social distancing and face covering guidelines.
