Listen to Obituary

Mr. James Russell Godfrey was born July 11, 1964 in Kansas City, MO. To the union of Mr. James Robert Godfrey & Mrs. Heardyseen Godfrey he was the youngest of 5 kids.

Both parents preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his Sister Marian Godfrey (Lane).

He received his education in Kansas City, Missouri graduating from Southeast High School.

He was united in marriage (now divorced) to Mrs. Toni Godfrey (Glynn) To this union 5 children were born Tia Godfrey, De’Andre Godfrey, Tanae Godfrey, De’ Ron Godfrey and Tyra Godfrey.

James Russell (known as Russell or Rus) loved washing and detailing cars, he enjoyed riding, talking and listening to music and cooking.  Russell had several other jobs alone his life journey from working at Research Medical Center, Carondelet Health Center, Legend Toyota, and Don Stein Buick.

You would always see Russell dressed in a Dickey outfit he favored the color chocolate brown, white cocaine Kangol cap turned back-ward, V-neck T-shirt and tennis shoes. I believed if you gave him any other clothing, he would accept it but you may not see him in it.

Russell loved his family when he would call, he would conduct the whole conversation you would not get one-word in. He would always ask how you are doing and then he would go down the line asking how everyone else was doing he was always concern and usually he would end the call by saying I Love You. He loves just being around his family; family members such as Marcus (Boomin)Eason, Louis (Little Lou) Eason, Ronnie (Ea son) Eason, they made sure he got where the family was.

Brothers Maurice & Tony, niece Vickie his aunt Sue and myself Herman we looked forward on the holidays that he came making us laugh the entire time dancing and talking. He would call me and say you are my BIG BROTHER.

He loved all his family with all his heart and soul but one member of the family who always had his back was his cousin Marcus (Karo) Eason if you wanted to know anything about and where Russell was you could just about ask Marcus and he would know or will find out. They had a relationship that was closer than a brother. Russell would always say Karo got me, for some of you who may not know who the late great Karo Eason was he was Marcus Eason father Russell’s uncle one of our uncle’s which we all looked up to.

Russell had a way of always making you laugh in what he would say or ask. If you have a car one of the first question’s he’s going to ask “is the air cold” not one time but all the time, he would dance even though he was not a good dancer that was just what he did and could pop his fingers louder than anyone in the room if you did it I guarantee you your hands would be sore for a while.

His brother Maurice Godfrey which is blind, Russell would call him on a regular making sure he was ok also his other brother that he call’s Tony Godfrey and niece Vickie as well. He’s going to be missed.

He leaves to mourn his passing his Aunt Arlaundra Sue Eason his brother Herman Lee Godfrey (Gail), Maurice Robert Godfrey (Sharon), Tony Curtis Godfrey (Carla), Niece Vickey LaShell Godfrey 2 son’s DeAndre Godfrey, De’ Ron Godfrey, 3 daughters Tanae Godfrey, Tia Godfrey, Tyra Godfrey, 6 Grandkids Granddaughter Brianna Singleton, Granddaughter Tiarra Rice, Grandson Brenden Singleton, Grandson Bryson Holloway, Grandson Aiden Glynn  and a host of loving cousins, Nieces, Nephews, and friends.
