James Cecil Harvey, Sr. passed away on September 23, 2017 in Raytown, Missouri. He was born in Armstrong, Missouri on August 17, 1929 to the union of James Harvey and Jetta Wayland Harvey. He received his formal education in Armstrong at Dalton Vocational High School. As a youngster, James played a wide range of sports. He was a lifelong fan of baseball and football. He was known to watch games back-to-back and could usually be seen wearing a KC ball cap or another from a favorite team.

The United States entered the Korean War in 1950 and James was drafted. He served his country faithfully and saw the world. He went on to work at the 10th Street Garage and Jimmy Woodley Janitorial, and retired from Broadway Ford. In his spare time, he helped friends with errands, taught some of his grandkids to drive, and passed time sitting on his porch talking with family and neighbors.

He married Betty J. Nichols in 1955. The two shared 47 years together and raised seven children in their Kansas City, Missouri home. James was proceeded in death by his parents, wife, brothers Frank Miller, Rev. Romie Miller, Cleo Miller, Melvin Miller, Walter Miller, Lewis Miller, John Robert Harvey, and daughter Linda J. Friday.

He leaves to cherish his memories: one sister Thelma Jackman (Bob); one brother Richard Harvey (Evon); three daughters Davetta Sawyer (Tom), Vera Harvey, and Theresa Harvey; three sons James C. Harvey, Jr. (Ruby), Terry Harvey (Denise), Rudolph Harvey; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends.

Funeral services will be held at International House of Mercy, 10200 James A. Reed Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64134 on Monday, October 2 at 10 a.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment will be Tuesday, October 3 at 12:30 p.m. at Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery.
