Listen to Obituary

James was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 16, 1963, to the parents of James R. and Auretta N. McGee. His mother Auretta N. McGee preceded him in death.

James attended Dunbar Elementary School and graduated in 1981 from East High School.

On September 12, 1988, he met his true love, Robin Y. Taylor. James and Robin were joined in holy matrimony on June 2, 2001, and from this union Miesha Aigne McGee was born along with a blended family of three: Ebony, DeAndre and Brandon.

James valued his job at YRC as forklift driver loading 18-wheeler trailers. He had a kind loving spirit and touched everyone he met and had a way with making friends quickly.

He accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of his grandfather, Rev. Lawrence W. McCormick in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a Jr. Deacon and a member of the choir. As a young adult, he continued to worship at St. John’s under the pastorate of his uncle, Rev. Thomas F. McCormick Sr.

On March 30, 2011, he and his wife joined United Believers Community Church under the pastorate of Pastor Darren L. Edwards. He served on the praise and worship team and was ordained as a deacon on September 8, 2013.

James gained his heavenly wings on February 8, 2022 and left many hearts to mourn and cherish his memory. He is survived by his father, James R. McGee Sr. of Kansas City, Mo; his stepfather, Robert L Taylor of Kansas City, MO; his wife, Robin Y McGee of the home; daughters, Ebony (Karl) Harris and Miesha McGee; two sons, DeAndre and Brandon Taylor all of Kansas City, MO; two brothers, Virgil (Danita) McGee, Cibolo, TX and Courtney Taylor Kansas City, MO; one honorary brother, Erick Donahue of Fort Worth, TX; five sisters, Lauretta McGee, Elaine Taylor, Renee Taylor, Anita (Derrick) Butler all of Kansas City, MO and Terressa (Charles) Cooper of Buda, TX; one honorary sister, Jeanine McCormick of Kansas City, MO;  three grandchildren, Karl III, Kamaiya and Kamrei Harris of Kansas City, MO; two aunts, Dorothy Boyd and Laura Mitchell, Kansas City, MO; and two uncles, Rev.
