James P. Taylor, Jr.

James Percy Taylor Jr. passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2026.

James was born on September 8, 1942, in Slater, Missouri, to James Percy Taylor Sr. and Virginia Linsey Taylor.

He graduated from Lincoln High School before proudly enlisting in the United States Marine Corps, where he served for six years. He later joined the United States Army, serving an additional 26 years. During his distinguished military career, James received numerous honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal. He retired with the rank of Staff Sergeant after more than three decades of faithful service to his country.

Following his military retirement, James began a second career with Olin Corporation at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant, where he worked as a Ballistics Expert. After 34 years of dedicated service, he retired, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and commitment.

James and Rita first met 42 years ago, forming a friendship that would eventually blossom into a lifelong love. After reconnecting in 2007, they realized they were meant to be together and were married on December 8, 2007. Together, they shared nineteen beautiful years of marriage filled with unwavering love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

James found joy in playing tennis, photography, fishing, listening to music, and watching westerns and martial arts movies. He was affectionately known by many nicknames throughout his life, including "Sergeant Pretty," "Sweet Percy," "Uncle Sonny Boy," "Dad," "Pops," and "Honey." His warm spirit, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

James was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Franklin Doolin; and two sisters, Emma Jean White and Marie Taylor.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Rita Taylor; his five children, Lenell (Tanzy) Taylor of Coweta, Oklahoma; Winston "Pretty Tony" (Keri) Taylor of Olathe, Kansas; James Johnson of North Kansas City, Missouri; JaWan (Cassandra) Humphrey of Raymore, Missouri; and Nicole Jordan of Nashville, Tennessee. He is also survived by his brother, Charles (Janet) Taylor of Independence, Missouri; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

James will be remembered for his faithful service to his country, his dedication to his family, and the kindness, strength, and love he shared throughout his life. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
