Some people only walk this earth for a certain amount of time. Their departure reminds us that angels are watching over us. We come together to commemorate the untimely passing of Janell M. Hewitt (James), 61, as she rejoined her heavenly family and gained her wings.
Janell was born in New Orleans, Louisiana before shortly moving to Kansas City, Missouri where she lived most of her life. Janell was survived by her mother Louise Perkins and preceded in death by her father, Deacon Frank Perkins.
Janell attended and graduated from Paseo Academy High School and later went on to work for St Luke's Hospital in environmental services then went on to retired from Research Medical Center.
Janell went by the name "Nelly" (Pooh) and was a passionate spirit who often cared and looked out for others as she continously volunteered where she resided at Paraclete Manor as a safety monitor for her neighbors. She also assisted with monthly activities such as movie night, holiday social gatherings, and birthday parties.
"Nelly" was survived by her children Angela Hewitt, Johnnie Hewitt Jr, and Janay Hewitt with her former spouse Johnnie Hewitt, Sr, in which they also shared seven grandchildren. "Nelly" is also survived by her oldest daughter Shaundrakia James with her former partner and lifelong friend, Vel Tibbs.
"Nelly" was survived by her brothers and sisters Donald James, Frank James, Sandra McClaine, Tresses Mae Perkins, Louella Perkins, Lonnell Perkins, Wanda Perkins, Stephanie Perkins, and Ronnie Perkins alongside the Perkins/James family including a host of nieces and nephews in which she adored and loved like her own
