Janelle Brown affectionately known as Nellie Bird or Nelle Belle was born in Kansas City, MO on June 24, 1980. She graduated from Northeast High School where she interned at Sprint and went on to Southwest Missouri State University pursuing a degree in Finance. In 1999, she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Rho Beta Chapter #5. When she returned to the Kansas City area, she attended Webster University and obtained an MBA with an emphasis in Finance. She spent her entire 20-year work career at Sprint working in the Revenue Assurance organization.
In her free time, Nelle loved to research different topics, read, listen to 610 Sports Radio, attend sporting events, create financial spreadsheets but her main passions were traveling, drinking tea (the fruitier the better), enjoying culinary experiences and most of all being a mom to Keegan Kai Young.
When she had Keegan (Johntell Young) or her Lovebug (and only she can call him that), she made sure he had everything he needed and wanted. She brought Keegan on her travels so he could also experience all that life has to offer. They shared a love of slushies and dinosaurs; they both could name any type. One of the many things she loved about Keegan was his big imagination and the illustrations that came from it.
She is survived by her son Keegan Young, mother Marlyn Wilkes, father Patrick Brown (Troirica Gresham-Brown), twin sister Jennifer Brown, sister Natashea Brown, Grandmother Lois Brown and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Ms. Brown's Delta Sigma Theta Omega Omega ceremony will be at 4pm, followed by her memorial service at 5pm at the Serenity Funeral Home on July 1st, 2022.
