Janice was born on December 1, 1942, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Robert Lee Jones and Anna Lucille Hams. She grew up in Edwardsville, Kansas, where she spent much of her early life on a farm. She was also lovingly raised by her grandfather, Samuel Jones, and his wife, Lura.
Janice began working at a young age. Her first job was at a button factory, and she later worked as an elevator operator at City Hall. She also worked as a nurse aide, where her nurturing spirit and compassionate nature allowed her to care for others. Later, Janice devoted much of her life to being a stay-at-home mother, raising and caring for her family with love and dedication.
Janice loved God most in life. She was always ready to worship and pray, and her faith was a constant presence that she leaned on and depended on throughout her life. She also served as a Sunday school teacher, sharing her love for God and helping teach and guide others in their faith.
She had a love for the simple joys of life and enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, and spending meaningful time with her family. Janice was known for having a sweet spirit, and her home and heart were always open to those she loved.
On July 24, 1971, Janice married James Naylor Jr. in Edwardsville, Kansas. They shared 36 years of marriage together before his passing in 2008.
Following his death, Janice lived with her daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Avery, and their children for 16 years. She loved living with her family and cherished watching her grandchildren grow.
Janice was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee Jones and Anna Lucille Hams; her husband, James Naylor Jr.; her sons Virgil Fisher, Anthony Fisher, and Eric Naylor; and her siblings Michael Curtis Hams, Carolyn Jones, and Robert Johnson.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughters, Suzette Naylor and Jennifer Cummings (Avery Cummings Jr.); her stepdaughter, Terrie Collier (Alvin Collier); her grandchildren, Alivia Cummings, Alarice Cummings, and Jordan Cummings; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Janice will be remembered for her kindness, her strength, and the love and care she shared with her family. Her life was a testament to faith, love, resilience, and devotion to family.
