Janie Alberta Cook, 87, passed away on 2/19/21 at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. Alberta was born on August 30, 1933 in Mount Brooks, FL., to Mary and Robert Cook, Sr. Alberta completed her high school education in High Springs, FL. After graduating high school, she moved to Kansas City, MO with her cousin/sister Evelyn Virginia Morris.
Alberta spent most of her working years as a Payroll/Accounting Manager at Torson Construction Company (27 years) and Kenney Machinery Company. Alberta worked part-time jobs for several years until retirement in the early 2000’s.
Despite many obstacles, Alberta successfully raised her five children; her home was also a place you would find grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and neighborhood children who she treated as her own. Alberta enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with family and friends. Alberta also had a green thumb, as she always kept a house full of plants.
Alberta was a member of Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church for many years.
In addition to her parents, siblings and grandson, Alberta was preceded in death by her son Ronald E. Cook and daughter Deborah A. Cook.
Alberta is survived by three children, Teresa Pope (Samuel), James M. Cook, Sr.(Brenda) and Janice L. Cook; thirteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
