Jerry L. Pointer passed away on Monday morning, January 27, 2025 at CenterPoint Medical Center in Independence, Mo. Jerry was born on April 13, 1952, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Willis Shane & Eloise Pointer. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at Spruce St. Matthews Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor W.T. Brown. He later became an Associate Minister at Spruce St. Matthews. He attended Horace Mann Elementary and graduated from Central High School in 1971. Jerry was a gifted musician and loved playing the guitar. He created a quartet group with his father, Willis Pointer and cousin, James Young called “The Son’s of Harmony. When he wasn’t engaging in music, he spent time coaching little league baseball, and tennis. He worked many years at Lipton Tea and Guy’s Food.
In 1994, he was called to Pastor at Greater Mt. Lebanon M.B.C.. While pastoring there, he was a member of "The 100 Men of Blue Hills" working in the community. He was called to start a new church, New Birth Christian Ministries in 1999 where he Pastor and Deborah Co-Pastor.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Eloise Pointer, his father, Willis Shane Pointer, his sister, Gwen Boston, his cousin and adopted sister, Annette Boston, his son, Jerry Garner. He leaves his Children: De’Andre Pointer, Meredith (Nicole) Watson, Tysala Tyler, Eric Taylor Sr, and Quiana Pointer. Stepchildren: LaToya Brown and VeRone'ca Young, 22 Grandchildren, 36 Great-Grandchildren, 5 Step-Grandchildren, 8 Step Great-Grandchildren, 1 Brother, Donald Pointer, Adopted Sister Delia King, Aunt and Adopted Sister Catherine Grant, Aunt Louise Moore, Aunt Mildred Kelley, Aunt Syble Pointer, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of family & friends.
