Listen to Obituary

On Wednesday, January 26th, 2022. Jerry Lee Wiley Sr. went home to glory at the age of 72. After several months of declining health he died peacefully, fully embracing his salvation. Jerry was born on June 20th,1949 in Waterproof, Louisiana to father Fred Wiley Sr. and mother Elnora Wiley. He was raised there along with six (6) sisters and two (2) brothers. He graduated from Tensas Rosenwald High School on May 15,1968.

Jerry was known affectionately by family and friends as a playful person and an energetic athlete they called, “Wogee.” Shortly after graduating from high school he moved to Kansas City, Missouri and began a life-long career with Owens Corning Fiberglass; lasting for 39 years. Jerry was a disciplined athlete, boxer and a local KC league baseball player. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, traveling and going to the casino.

Jerry’s family life included his widow, Johnny Mae Wiley of Indianapolis, Indiana. He leaves to mourn Jerry McCloud, his oldest son. In 1972, Jerry married Dianna Marie Willis (deceased 1984); to that union they had two children, LaTrese Marie Scott (Theseus Sr.) and Jerry Lee Wiley Jr.(India). He also leaves to mourn a second daughter, LaToya A. Ashley (Donielle), and a stepson, Shawn Holmes, through marriage with Ann Holmes for 10 years in which they have remained friends.

Collectively, Jerry is blessed with thirteen grandchildren, Shaunai Smith, Jewyin Wiley, Jerah Wiley, Zion Wiley, Calen Wiley, Micah Wiley, Tino (Theseus) Catino Scott Jr., Adonis Charles Scott, Cassie E. Scott II, Lauren Dianna-Marie Scott, Erin Christina-Grace Scott, Donovan Ashley, and Payton Ashley. Two great-grandchildren: Kamari Smith and Nilan Smith.

Jerry will leave with heavy hearts, five sisters: Elmira White, Janice Strong, Delores Wiley, Gussie Wiley, Diana White and several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and relatives.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Davis, and two brothers: Fred Wiley Jr, and Wallace L. Wiley Sr.

Whenever Jerry had a challenge personally and/or he wanted to encourage someone else or himself, his favorite phrase was, “I can do anything with the help of the Lord.” Let us all be encouraged now and remember this scripture, Philippians 4:13, that: ``I [we] can do all things through Christ who strengthens me [us].”
