Joey Lee Washington, 60, passed away on February 24, 2026, at Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, Missouri.

Joey was born on December 14, 1965, to William Washington II and Pearlie Mae (Jefferies) Washington in Little Rock, Arkansas. Joey had three brothers and five sisters; he is the oldest child of the family. Joey was taught to take care of family; that family was one of the most important things in life, after God and his salvation. As a child, Joey attended East Side New Hope Church under the leadership of Reverand Earl Ray.

Joey graduated from Westport High School in 1984. Joey participated in the JROTC and played clarinet in the band. He could play other woodwind instruments and the guitar as well. Joey furthered his education at Penn Valley Community College, University of Missouri at Kansas City, and Western Governor’s University. He was currently in the last semester of earning his master’s degree in Information Technology Securities. In his early life, Joey worked for Captain D’s for several years. Later, he worked for HCA Midwest Health as an IT Security Specialist. Before life ended, Joey was blessed to work for himself, contracting as an IT Specialist. His hobbies were building and programming computers. He also had a love for numbers and readily prepared taxes for his family.

In 1995, Joey met the love of his life, Sherica LaDon (Sansom) Washington. In May of 2004, they joined in holy matrimony and shared 31 blissful years together. To this union two sons were born, Kelvrin & Jovon.

Joey was preceded in death by: his parents, William Washington II and Pearlie Mae Washington; his brothers, William Washington III and Keary Washington; his grandparents, Jo Willie Jefferies and Ollie Pearl (Franks) Jefferies-Hicks; uncles: Jo Willie Jefferies Jr., Reverand Ivory Jefferies Sr., and Curtis Jefferies.

Left to cherish Joey’s memory: his wife, Sherica Washington; his sons, Kelvrin Washington and Jovon Washington (fiancée, Kaliyaa); his siblings: Keith Washington, Pamela Childress, Marilyn Dydell (Curtis), Terri Washington, LaTonya Washington and Tomeka Washington; uncles, Thomas Jefferies and Larry Jefferies (Olivia); aunts: Patricia Nelson (Linson Sr.), Dorothy Bright and April Jefferies: a swarm of nephews, nieces, cousins, “brother-friends”, “sister-friends”, other loving relatives and friends; and a new grandson, Jovonni, on the way.
