Listen to Obituary

John Kenneth Burns was born on November 9, 1957, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Arthur and Esther Burns. He was the third born from this union. Both parents and his sister Gladys Lawton preceded him in death.

He was educated in the Kansas City Missouri School District.  He also served in the military as a United States Marine.  John had a great love for his family whom all lovingly called him “Beanie” or “Benny” and was always excited to love on his grandchildren, he never missed a moment to joke with all around him. He had a green thumb and loved to grow plants of all kinds and could bring any plant back to life.  John always joked he was the fastest potato peeler and the family would all say he made the absolute best fried potatoes and homemade french fries. The family often joked about his love of potatoes, but all were ready to eat when he cooked them.

John leaves to cherish his memory - his children, Lance Burns; Destiny Burns of Kansas City, Missouri; and Kenneth (Sophia) Burns of Kailua, Hawaii; two granddaughters, Iris Winters of Kansas City; Missouri and Anaya Burns of Kailua, Hawaii; two brothers Arthur (Diana) Burns Jr. and David Burns; one sister LaQuittia Boles; his bestfriend, Terry Stevenson. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
