John Archie Flowers

John Archie Flowers passed away on September 29, 2025, at Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix, Arizona.

He was born on December 28, 1946, in Alexandria City, Alabama to Willie J. Flowers and Katie Bell Taylor Flowers.

He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and graduated from Central High School. After high school he joined the United States Navy in 1967 and served for four years. During his time in the service, he was a recipient of the Republic of Vietnam Navy and achieved the rank of E-4 Petty Officer. He later worked at the Veteran’s Hospital as the chief of department environmental management in the Phoenix VA Health Care System, and in 2011 retired after 40 years of service.

John was involved in Blacks in Government, NAACP, Buffalo Soldiers, Mason: Past Master, grand lodge officer of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Arizona, and a member of King Solomon Lodge #14.

Sonny had his own way of expressing his creativity from his Fashionable dressing to customized cars. Making everything FLOWERCHILD. He loved hunting and volunteering for the many organizations he was involved in. He loved his family deeply and lived life to fullest.

John married Paulette McKenzie on October 10, 2010, in Phoenix, Arizona and they were happily married for 15 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Katie Bell, his father, Willie J. Flowers, son, Cornelious Flowers, sister, Bettie Jackson, brother, James Canada, grandsons: Sean Jones and Anthony Flowers, and granddaughter, Antoinette Williams.

John is survived by his wife, Paulette McKenzie Flowers, daughter, Sheila Ellingbug (Edward) of Kansas City, Missouri; sons: John Flowers Jr. (Q) of Phoenix, Arizona; Eulandas Flowers of Phoenix, Arizona, stepdaughters; Millicent DasGupta (Gregory) and Cherryn Alexander (William) of Detroit, Michigan; sisters: Gertrude Wright and Willie Mae Wright of Kansas City, Missouri, and a host of nieces, nephews, grand and great grandchildren.
