John H Hutchinson Sr.

John H. Hutchinson, Sr., 96, passed away on September 14, 2019 at St. Lukes Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas.  He was born on May 30, 1923 in Winfield, Kansas to George and Lucille Hutchinson.  He grew up in Horton Kansas and graduated from Horton High School.  After high school, he attended Kansas University in Lawrence, Kansas and later attended Topeka Vocational School in Topeka, Kansas .

In 1943, John joined the Army and served for 2 years.  During his time of service, he received the American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with 2 bronze stars, a Good Conduct Medal Avg. 2nd in 1994, and the Victory Medal World War II. He achieved the rank of Tec-5. He began working for US Disciplinary Baracks as a Clerk/Supervisor for 32 years, and later retired.  Shortly after retirement, he began working for Hallmark Cards as a Night Guard for over 15 years, and later retired.

John married Naomi Bratton in 1948, in Troy, Kansas.  They were happily married for 71 years.  His most recent joyful experience was the  “Honor Flight”  trip that he took with his brother-in-law ,Arthur Bratton to Washington, DC.

He was preceded into death by his parents, his son, Ronald Hutchinson; five sisters, Anna Snoody, Genevieve Booker, Doris Webb, Della Hampton, and Ruth Springer; and his granddaughters, Shawna Hutchinson, and Evelyn I. Hutchinson,

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Naomi Hutchinson; his son, John Hutchinson, Jr. (Ramona); his daughter, Sharon Hutchinson;  his brother, William Junior Robinson of Chesapeake, VA; eight grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, his sister-in-law Ms. Evelyn Clayton-Roper; and his brother-in-law,  Arthur Bratton.
