On January 1st, 1985, Johnnie was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, where he overcame obstacles from an early age and spent most of his short life. Johnnie survived by his father, Johnnie R. Hewitt Sr. and preceded in passing by his beloved mother, Janell M. Hewitt. Also preceded in passing is his sister, Angela N. Hewitt, maternal grandparents Louise Perkins, Deacon Frank Perkins and paternal grandmother Carrie Hewitt. Johnnie is survived by his paternal grandfather, William Samuels.
Johnnie attended Northeast High School, where he enjoyed science and maintained a love for reading, a skill he acquired from childhood. Johnnie obtained a range of skills while working in the retail trade sector and hotel/restaurant hospitality industry. Johnnie also volunteered in places such as soup kitchens, shelters, and The Salvation Army. One of his favorite activities was visiting recreational parks to meditate and pray while listening to music. Johnnie loved the Lord and kept the spirit of faith closed to his heart.
Johnnie was kind, passionate, and giving with a big heart. Because of his love for people, he often prided himself with his known ability to perform and put on a show. Commonly known for “Jayonce”, he would take on the persona of his favorite artist Beyonce, and a star was born. Jayonce had a great run while performing famous routines in the Westport area. Jayonce gained a loving and supportive fanbase even up until his passing. Jayonce had a special place in his heart for all the friends and acquaintances within the tight-knit community that was full of life, laughter, and love. Jayonce stayed true to himself while having the support of a united community that loved him genuinely.
Johnnie “Jayonce” was survived by his youngest sister Janay C. Hewitt and his oldest sister Shaundrakia M. James. Johnnie had no children but loved his nieces and nephews: Diamond, Shayla, Angelo, Jamiya, Jayden. Jarielle, and Josiah. Johnnie had recently shared a new bond with his first great-nephew, Angel, like they were his own.
Johnnie “Jayonce” was survived by the Perkins/ James family and the Hewitt family alongside honorary family members including a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, great-cousins and many more that he loved and cherished.
