Johnny Ray Saulsberry Sr. passed away on June 29th, 2024, at Saint Lukes Hospice House in KCMO. He was born on November 13, 1945, in Chatham, LA, to Earnest Saulsberry and Onnie Anderson.
He grew up in Chatham, LA. After finishing high school at Jasper High School, he moved to Kansas City. He began working for Saint Lukes Hospital as a linen foreman where he worked for 35 years. He also worked with Woodley Janitorial Services as a supervisor for 26 years. Johnny worked until his health declined. He also served as a deacon at Greater Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist Church.
He married Bobbie Dawson on Nov 23rd, 1966, in KCMO. They were happily married for 57yrs. From this union 3 children were born. Johnny loved ALL his children. He worked very hard to provide for his family and to provide a life filled with opportunities that he never had. His heart’s desire was for his children to excel in whatever gift God had given them & reach their full potential.
Johnny also loved fishing and would go at any chance he could get. Sports were also something he enjoyed as he spent a great deal of time arguing with his family & friends over the outcome of the game. Johnny loved to travel back home to Chatham, LA to visit his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Earnest Saulsberry, Onnie Saulsberry; sisters: Lela Bell (Shug) Jackson), Viola (Tiny) Hester; and brother Mac Author (Boobie) Saulsberry.
He is survived by his loving wife: Bobbie Saulsberry; his children, Trent Saulsberry (Rolanda), Johnny Saulsberry Jr. (Cassandra), his baby girl, Nanci Saulsberry, Rahmon Allen, and Joyce Gough; one sister, Mary Brown; eleven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
