In Loving Memory of Joseph "Joe" Harrell

Joseph Harrell, 77, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2026, at 8:20 p.m. surrounded by loving family and friends. Affectionately known to most as "Joe" and to some special family as, "Uncle Bacon".  On March 5, 1949, he was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, a city he proudly called home his entire life. Joe held a truly special place in his family as a devoted "mama's boy" and the youngest of his siblings—he was the last one born to his parents and the last of his brothers and sisters to leave this earth.

Joe was known for his incredible work ethic and dedication. He was extremely disciplined and well respected, as he himself was a respecter of others & would accept no less.

On October 30, 1968, he began a long, impactful journey as an Environmental Service Technician at the VA Hospital in Kansas City, where he worked faithfully for 37 years until his retirement on October 30, 2005. Joe was a remarkably hard worker; he also held a second job and was employed at Belfonte Ice Cream for 28 years, beginning his career there in January 1991. While there, he became very good friends with the owner, David Belfonte.

In his earlier years, Joe loved skating, swimming, and diving. Above all, he loved spending time with his family during family gatherings. His dedication and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Joe was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Lloyd Harrell Sr. and Helen Marie (Armstrong) Harrell; his three sisters: Doris Williams, Joyce E. Walker, and Glennis Davis; his four brothers: Lloyd "Jack" Harrell Jr., Maurice Harrell, Eugene "Pretty Gene" Harrell, and Kenneth Harrell.

His legacy will live on through his family.

Left to cherish Joe's memory: his daughter, Amanda Harrell; his son, Kenton Joseph Savage; his cherished grandsons, Antonio Savage Sr. and Kenton Lloyd Savage; his precious great-grandchildren, Antonio Laron Savage Jr., Asher Tonio Savage and Harlem Nasir Savage. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
