Listen to Obituary

November 28, 2003, Joseph Stephen Marzett burst into this life as a dazzling ray of sunshine that perpetually lit up and impacted the world. He was born to the union of Gilbert Ray and Stephanie Sheree Marzett. He was the link that anchored their blended family together.

Joe brought immense joy and laughter to his elder siblings – sister Cierra and brother Jonathan. He gleaned a lot from Jonathan, with whom he shared a room for several years. His first work experience in fact, was alongside Jonathan, who led him through several different projects.

Joe shared a lot of interests with Cierra. He especially loved cooking up surprises in her easy bake oven, taking endless photo shoots, and enjoying fun adventures at the Schlitterbahn Waterpark. He and Cierra never missed a Marvel movie release. Family all agree that he was very funny and loved comedies, especially the Naked Gun series. He loved Taco Tuesday and Chick-Fil-A.

Joe was an avid gamer who built his own computer. Not only did he build his own computer, but he was also a walking computer – an endless font of knowledge who remembered everything. When questioned, he loved to point out to family how he was the one who always remembered facts they either didn’t know or had forgotten.

His diverse interests included a passion for fishing. He spent countless hours by the water with his dad.

He was a dedicated Kansas City Chiefs and KC Royals fan who, over time, like a true Marzett, eventually adopted the Oklahoma Sooners to the fold too.

He completed his primary education and was baptized as a member of St. Peter’s Parish and completed secondary education at Center High School in 2022.

Joseph was an extremely loving son, grandson, brother, and uncle who never caused his parents a day of trouble or concern. He will be remembered for how he lived sacrificially by freely laying aside his activities to help anyone in need. Joe’s trademark was the hugs he freely shared with everyone from his earliest years.

No matter what he was going through or how he was feeling, he gave his parents and siblings hugs and told them that he loved them every day. His dad called Joe “my home slice” and Joe likewise called his dad “my slice of home”.

He grew up next door to his best friend Lindsay. Their endless sleepovers and constant visits to each other's homes were a testament to their close bond.

Joseph departed this life September 17, 2024 and leaves to carry on his legacy of love, parents Gilbert Ray and Stephanie Sheree Marzett; sister, Cierra Tanya Marzett; brother, Jonathan Philip Ferguson; nieces, Ellie May and Harper Grace Ferguson; grandparents, Victor Wayne and Glenora Faye Ferguson; an extremely large extended family, treasured friends, and neighbors who regarded him as the nicest, most honest and truthful young man they knew.

Joseph’s life can’t be summed up in a list of facts and statistics because his life transcended mere activities. He was the heart of the family – true walking love. He radiated life and left a legacy of kindness, joy, gentle grace, and sincerity that his family, friends and acquaintances will lean on for the rest of their lives.

Gone too soon, Joseph’s perfect example of compassion, empathy, friendship, and love is the perfect blueprint everyone will emulate and model from this day forward.
