On March 6, 2021 Joseph “Doc” Smith, took his final ride on his Harley to Heaven. He said, “I will miss you all, but this is the ultimate ride of a lifetime and I must go”. He took one last look at his watch and said, “this is a road I must travel alone”. I do not want you to be sad for me because, the highway looks bright for me.
Joseph T. Smith was born April 17, 1956 in Atlanta, Georgia to his loving parents Henry T. Smith Sr., Linnie Mae Smith, and Julia Pearl Smith who from the age of 6 years old raised and cared for him. They all precede him in death.
As a young man growing up, he loved playing football and had the aspiration of one day playing on the big field. He graduated from L.J. Prince High School in Atlanta, Georgia in 1974. After graduating high school, he began his military career in the Army and continued playing football until 1979. He then met Arnita Turner in April 2006, and he relocated to Kansas City, Missouri. They went on to marry on April 19, 2008.
He leaves to cherish in loving memory his wife: Arnita Smith, his children: Anderous (Shawn) Smith, Nia Venable, Julia Smith; grandchildren: Geoffrey Smith, Christian Vendable, Kennedy Venable; his stepchildren: Jacqueline (Greg) Owens, Thomas Turner, Deitra Turner, Reva (Louis) Branch; his siblings: Henry Sonny (Peggy) Smith Jr., Bernie Smith, and a host of grand/great children, nieces, and nephews.
He also leaves to cherish in loving memory his Outcast Motorcycle family, and special friend: Michael (Zenobia) Willis. He loved you like a brother and he valued your friendship.
A message from “Doc” to his Family and friends
I’m gone but do not weep, I’ve loved my life, so full and deep.
Though out my life, I gave my best, I’ve earned my keep, I’ve earned my rest.
I’ve never tried to be great or grand, I tried to be a helping hand.
If I helped in a team, if I helped on my own, it was more than repaid by good family and friends I’ve known.
If I went the extra mile, I did it with pleasure, it was all worthwhile.
So, if I brightened your path, then let it be a small contribution from my loved ones and I.
Now sadly I leave you and travel alone through a mystic veil to the great unknown,
With such beautiful memories that will forever be the way that I hope you’ll remember me.
