Joslyn Denise Harvey, 70, was born to Edith McCarthy on November 12, 1951, in Kansas City, MO and was the youngest of three children. Her mother, Edith McCarthy; grandmother, Lola Harvey; and aunt, Marcella Carter, all preceded her in death.
She was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, MO and graduated from Paseo High School in 1970. There she was active in the pep club and met her lifelong friend, Glenda Howell whom she affectionately called “Sissy”. On January 9, 1984, she gave birth to her one and only daughter, Mia whom she loved dearly. Sissy later invited her to come to church and she gave her life to Christ. She became a faithful member of Gethsemane Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of the late Reverend A.L. Scott, where she sang in the choir and was on the hospitality board.
Joslyn was a servant leader. She had a passion for helping and encouraging others. She worked various jobs over the years but specialized in the hospitality and the medical fields. She became a pharmacy technician and worked in a pharmacy in Parkville, MO where she met Dawn Durham and became friends with for over 40 years. In August of 1989 she received her Medical Assistant Diploma from Concorde Career Institute.
Over the years her vision and health started to decline, and she eventually lost her eyesight but not her faith! She did not allow any physical limitations to stop her from accomplishing many more goals. She loved learning and later enrolled in Western Bible College. There she made the Fall 2017 Dean’s List and in May of 2019, received an associate degree in Religious Studies. While attending Western, she recognized the need for and developed the Student Association where she served as and was voted in as the Student Association President. She was currently working on a double bachelor’s degree in Christian Education and Christian Theology.
She loved the Lord and was a prayer warrior. She was a faithful and active member of Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Jesse Frazier. She always had the desire to contribute and do whatever she could for the advancement of the Kingdom of God. She was an encourager to the leaders and members who knew her, and a pure, loving joy to be around. A bright light in this world she truly was.
Joslyn leaves to cherish her memories her daughter: Mia Harvey; sisters: Rita Campbell and Cynthia Grover; cousin: Darryl Carter; nephew: Eric Grover; niece: Grashawn Campbell; four great nephews, two great nieces and one great-great niece.
