Listen to Obituary

Juanita Rosetta Scott, 67, was born December 18, 1956, to Dennis Jerry McKissick, Sr., and Sarah Henderson McKissick in Kansas City, Missouri. The youngest of nine children, Juanita was the baby of the McKissick Family and spoiled and doted on by all. Juanita was preceded in death by both of her beloved parents; five older brothers: Dennis Jerry McKissick, Jr., Robert Leon McKissick, Paul Leslie McKissick, Sr., Eugene Payne McKissick, and Henry Earl McKissick. She was also preceded in death by four uncles and three aunts.

Juanita grew up in a very tight-knit family centered around love and faith. She shared a very close bond with her sisters and brothers, and they always supported, protected, and took care of one another, just as their parents taught them.

She was educated in the Kansas City Public School system, graduating from Central High School in the class of 1974. After high school, Juanita obtained an Associate’s Degree from the Kansas City Business College. In August 1979, Juanita married Clifford B. Scott, Sr. (deceased August 2024). Clifford and Juanita’s union was blessed with one daughter, Essence Monique Scott-Montgomery.

Juanita was an educator in the Kansas City Missouri School District. She spent many years as a paraprofessional at Bancroft Elementary School. Her students were very fond of her, sharing how kind, gentle, and warm she was. She also greatly enjoyed knitting afghans and watching movies. Most importantly, she loved being a grandmother and was very proud of her grandboys.

Juanita was a woman who loved God and was grateful for his presence in her life. During her youth, she attended Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church with her mother. After marriage, she attended Zion Grove Baptist Church where she was baptized. In her latter years, she was a member of Memorial Church International, where she enjoyed the Word of God and was especially excited when she could attend and hear her daughter speak.

Following a brief illness, on November 28th, 2024 (Thanksgiving Day), Juanita went home to be with the Lord in Glory. She closed the earthly chapter of her life surrounded by her family; she took her last breath with one hand in her daughter’s hand and the other hand in her sister’s hand, until she let go of their hands and grabbed hold of the Master’s Hand. She leaves to cherish her precious memory: one daughter, Essence Scott-Montgomery (Kansas City, MO); two grandsons, Warren Montgomery, Jr., and Wylin Montgomery; two stepsons, Clifford B. Scott, Jr., (Kansas City, MO) and Tyrone Scott (Las Vegas, NV); one brother, Leroy Marion McKissick; two sisters, Francis Marie Robinson and Sharon Arnetta McKissick; nephews, Dennis Brown, Sr., Paul McKissick, Jr., Eugene Calvert, Romane Giles, LaMont Camplin, and Corey Robinson, Sr.; nieces, Tataneisha Mason, Leticia, Juanita, and Salessia Lovings, and Sharon Graham; friends who were like sisters, Clara Knight, Carolyn McGaughy, Jaelean Wofford, Deborah Payne, and Pastor Olivia Aiken; and a host of other relatives, loved ones and friends.

Juanita’s love, smile, and kind heart will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her, and she will be sorely missed.
