Lagretta S. Adkins, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2023, at the age of 80 in Kansas City, Missouri. Born on August 14, 1942 in Paris, Arkansas, Lagretta was a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.
A “country girl” at heart, Lagretta had a deep love for nature and enjoyed picking strawberries, peas, and greens. She even had her own garden at one time and cherished her pet chickens. Lagretta had a keen mind and enjoyed challenging herself with crossword puzzles. She also had a passion for collecting angel figurines and was an avid supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. Above all, Lagretta cherished spending time with her family during cookouts in Paris, Arkansas.
She graduated from Paris High School and later moved to Kansas City, MO where she embarked on a fulfilling career. While she held various jobs throughout her lifetime, she found great fulfillment working at General Motors, where she eventually retired.
Lagretta was a faithful member of the Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church since the 1970s. Her strong faith provided her with comfort and guidance throughout her life. She was a member of the Usher Board and later became a member of the church’s Mother’s Board until her health no longer afforded her the opportunity to attend.
Lagretta was preceded in death by her parents, Reno and Josephine Lewis; her husband, John Adkins, Sr.; her son, John Adkins, Jr.; and her siblings, Harold, Bobbie, Lonnie, Reno Lewis, Jr. and Rena Posey.
Lagretta leaves behind a legacy of love and memories. She is survived by her sons, Keith D. Adkins (Robbin) of Grandview, Missouri, Michael J. Adkins of Leawood, Kansas; sister, Julia Ellingburg (Jesse) of Kansas City, Missouri; siblings, Ronnie Lewis and James Robert (Carolyn) of Paris, Arkansas, Rhonda Jacobs, Greg Jacobs and Leonard Agnew of Wichita, Kansas; aunt, Georganne Davis (VL); 6 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; best friends, Emma Grace and Lorine Edwards; an adopted daughter, Kimberly Fuchs-Madsen; as well as a host of other family and friends.
