Larry Johnson was born to the late Jerry and Georgia Johnson on June 14th, 1949, in Atlanta, Texas. He was a dedicated servant of God and was deeply committed to sharing the word of God. He remained steadfast in his faith until he peacefully transitioned, surrounded by his daughters, on July 16, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, all seven of his siblings, and his only son, Jerry Johnson.
He graduated from Pruitt High School and studied at East Texas University, majoring in Broadcasting. He served his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force from 1974-1980 and receiving an honorable discharge in Washington, DC. He retired from the United States Postal Service in 2004.
Larry’s passion for serving the Lord and saving souls was unwavering, inspiring all who knew him. He was a people person, and his love for reading the bible was essential to his life. His mission was to introduce, teach, and mentor the word of God to all who crossed his path.
For over 40 years, he was a devoted member of the Pentecostal Church of God in Christ and served as an Elder. His love for fellowship and compassion for ministry was evident and a source of warmth and comfort for all who knew him. He enjoyed family, reading, traveling, and studying history.
Elder Larry Johnson leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, Christie Johnson, Nikisha Johnson, Natasha Johnson, and Angela Johnson; six grandchildren, Jason Johnson, Isaiah Jones, Aniya Cole, Je’Shan Shoats, Jurnee Cole, and Chaden Carter; one great-grandchild, Jayla Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri; bonus brother, James Johnson of Corpus Christi, Texas; a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all those he interacted with. His lifelong journey of service has left an indelible mark on the lives of many, and his memory will continue to inspire and guide us. His impact through ministry and his love for fellowship will be remembered for years to come and testament of his life.
