Laurence Cordell Frazier, Sr. was born on October 2, 1952 at The University of Kansas (KU) Hospital, to Henry Lee Frazier Sr., and Pearl Denton Frazier who preceded him in death. Grandparents Louis & Lizzie Lee Frazier, Herbert & Mary Bell Denton, brothers Joe R. Frazier, Henry L. Frazier Jr., and sister Rosemary Frazier- O’neal preceded him in death as well.
Being the fifth child of six children, Laurence was very adventurous and known for his affectionate grin and keen sense of humor. Laurence attended Grant Elementary, Northeast Jr. High and Sumner Highschool where he graduated class of 1970. Shortly after graduating he began a career at Mobil Oil Company (Exxon Mobile) as a Preventative Maintenance Technician. There Laurence dedicated 29 years of repairing troubleshooting every machine inside the plant before retiring.
During his time at mobile, he invented a machine that allowed the production of oil packaging to run more rapidly at the plant. His invention received recognition in the Kansas City Star Newspaper. In 1970 was a booming year for young Laurence being the same year he met the love of his life Diane (Calvin) Frazier, they were married two years later in 1973 and of that union came five children, four daughters and one son, together they found and fell in love with Islam and adopted the teachings of the most Hon Elijah Muhammad.
Upon becoming a member of the Nation of Islam Laurence was registered under the name Afta Budin. Brother Afta Budin (Laurence) also became a member of Fruit of Islam (F.O.I) and was a member of the security team for the late Muhammad Ali during his visits to Kansas City.
Brother Frazier had many skills and talents. Laurence was an intermediate Trumpet Player and was part of his high school marching band. Laurence attended Fire Safety and Rescue training and received a certificate.
Laurence loved whipping up new self-made recipes in the kitchen. In 1974 him and his brother Henry opened a restaurant called Nile Valley. The restaurant unfortunately closed in 1975. Brother Frazier was also an electrician, plumber and could repair cars as well. He is what one would consider a “Jack of all trades”. He loved sports and was an adamant Chiefs & Royals fan. Laurence was very knowledgeable and did not hesitate to pass his knowledge on. Laurence will be remembered for his intellectual conversation.
Laurence departed on January 20, 2022, at his home, with family . Laurence was a devoted husband, father, and brother whom he leaves to cherish his memories and legacy his beautiful wife Diane Frazier (Calvin) and four daughters: LaSeanda Smith( Johnny), Khadijah Edwards(Jeron), Aneesah Frazier(Antonio), Aisha Frazier(Jerome), and one son Laurence Frazier Jr, two siblings, brother Lester B. Lane, sister Regina Frazier, a bundle of grandkids Jasmine, JaMesha, Johnny III, Andre Jr, Jaeunna, DeAjah, Jahdai, Allajah, Amanee and two great grands; Jayceon and Braylen.
