Lavearn Shannon was born on July 18, 1954, in Blytheville, Arkansas to the union of Shelby Shannon and Lorraine Hudson Shannon.  Ms. Shannon moved to Kansas City, Missouri at an early age with her family.  Her school days were spent at Lincoln Senior High School. Later on in life she sought educational enrichment by attending Wright Business College and becoming a licensed Cosmetologist from House of Heavilin Beauty College.

Lavearn took pride in self-care and styling women hair, providing hair extensions, perms, curls, updos, and haircuts. She gave the best beauty tips about skin and hair.  When you left Vernie’s Home Salon you felt like a movie star.  Lavearn loved to play multiple instruments, sing, write Christian songs, and promote outreach as founder of the Jesus Is My Friend Ministries, Incorporated during her leisure time.

Throughout her life, Lavearn was never afraid to seek out new opportunities for growth and development. She served faithfully in UNI-Guard, public safety, as a licensed security officer, and Thriftway Store Manager. Lavearn recently completed her Certified Nursing Assistance training. Lavearn was a dedicated worker in several higher education institutions. She worked part-time at UMKC dental clinic and full time at Rockhurst Greenlease Library.

Lavearn was a dedicated employee at Rockhurst University.  She gave 19 years of dedicated service to Rockhurst University.  She was committed to working hard and being a part of the Jesuit traditional team. Lavearn’s motto  at Rockhurst University was:  “Let My Work Speak For Me.” She excelled in her duties and responsibilities at Rockhurst University Greenlease Library.

Ms. Lavern Shannon has joined in “Beams of Heaven, with those who proceeded her in death, her beloved mother, Lorraine Hudson Shannon,  father, Shelby Shannon, Brothers, Sandy La Van Shannon, Ronnie Shannon, Delaund Shannon, Ezzard  Charles Shannon and her sisters Glory Jean Shannon-Cunningham, and Malissa Shannon Wright.

The Book of life was closed for  Lavearn Shannon on Tuesday April 19, 2022, in the home. She lives to cherish her precious memories a loving family, and a  lifelong friendship with Wendell Myles of Kansas City, MO; a loving brother, Wymon Hudson, Kansas City, MO; four sisters: Joyce Shannon, and Shelby Mae Richardson of Kansas City, MO; Maxine Hershell-Dallas, Texas; Rev. Dr. Arretta Shannon, Dallas, Georgia; a host of nieces,  great nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, friends, supervisors, directors, and co-workers at Rockhurst University.

Lavearn Shannon’s generosity, kindness, service, hard work and charity offered in helping others will be sadly missed by all who loved and knew her.  God Blessings! She found her eternal wings and a new resting home.
