Lavernard Thomas passed away on January 18, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri, at the age of 79. He was born on April 23, 1946, to Morgan Thomas and Murlene Peters, Lavernard was a graduate of Anna Strong High School. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Leotis Mosby.
In January 1978, Lavernard married Pernella Johnson. The two remained devoted to one another for 47 years until his passing. He was a loving father to his 3 children, and a dedicated provider.” Lavernard worked at Stuart Hall Paper Company for 31 years and later he worked at Velociti. Outside of work, he was a master of strategy, enjoying chess, cards, and gardening. He was also a talented artist who loved to draw and paint. Additionally, he was an avid gamer, often found at his console playing Asteroids or various robot games. Above all, he was a family man who represented strength and quiet support, showing up for his loved ones with dignity and resilience. He was not a man of many words, but he was truly a man of many actions.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Pernella Thomas; his children: Sherry Thomas, Levernare (Montoyia) Thomas, and Lateef (LaDawna) Thomas; his grandchildren: Marquice Martin, Mariah, Letrez, Lavon, Makiah, Kierra, Shakir, and Faraji Thomas; and his great-granddaughter, Talia Thomas. He is also survived by his siblings: Marquita Ingraham, Joyce Davis, Willie Clarence (Clara) Thomas, Michael (Barbara) Thomas, Mitchell (Brenda) Thomas, Morgan Thomas Jr. (Lisa Davis), and Reverend Theophilus (Althelia) Thomas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
