Lawrence D. Austin

Lawrence D. Austin, aged 70, was called home on March 8, 2024. Born on July 14, 1953, in Kennett, Missouri, to the late Benjamin J. Austin and the late Velma Austin. Lawrence spent his formative years in Kennett, where he graduated from Kennett High School, remaining rooted in his Missouri hometown.

After completing high school, Lawrence answered the call to serve his country and joined the Navy from 1972 to 1975. During his three years of service, he served aboard the USS Roosevelt, earning various military awards and citations for his dedication and valor. His military accolades, including his esteemed position as HELMS Man, stand as a testament to his commitment and valor.

Following his honorable discharge, Lawrence embarked on a career with UPS as a diesel mechanic, dedicating 29 years to the company. His expertise and commitment were evident in his work, earning him the respect and admiration of colleagues and superiors alike. He also worked as a security guard, demonstrating his versatility and dedication to providing for his family.

Throughout his life, Lawrence was deeply involved in his community. He served as a church usher, offering a warm welcome and support to fellow worshippers. Lawrence actively participated in various church activities, contributing to the spiritual growth and cohesion of his community. Additionally, he was known for his unwavering support of local sports teams, particularly as a devoted fan of the Kansas City Chiefs. He also played baseball as a hobby in his younger years.

Beyond his professional and community involvement, Lawrence was a talented freelance photographer. His passion for capturing moments of beauty and significance led him to share his work, including captivating black art pieces that reflected his keen eye for aesthetics and cultural appreciation.

Lawrence's genuine kindness and infectious spirit endeared him to all who crossed his path. Affectionately known as "Pictureman," he effortlessly connected with others, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of many.

As family, friends, and community members mourn the loss of Lawrence, they find solace in the cherished memories he leaves behind. His legacy of dedication, love, and kindness will forever be remembered and celebrated by those fortunate enough to have known and loved him.

In 1995, Lawrence married the love of his life, Mary Ashe Austin and their union remained strong for 29 blissful years and counting.

He is survived by his spouse, Mary Austin (Grandview, Mo); and oldest daughter, Catherine Vance-Smith (Stacey Smith) of Kennett Mo; second daughter, Veronica Austin ( Kansas City, MO); and youngest daughter, Lashelle Austin (Grandview, MO); three grandchildren, Kimberly Vance of Springfield Missouri, Sharika AnNoor of Jonesboro Arkansas, and Jack Walls of Kennett Missouri; two greatgrandchildren, Kevryn AnNoor and Kadison AnNoor both of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and a host of other relatives and friends.
