Linda M. Knight, 75, was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 4, 1950, to Ardelia Mae Tinson and Amos Knight. Linda was the oldest of six children, blessed to be raised in a loving family, shaped by the devotion of her mother, Ardelia Mae Brown, and her father, R.T. Brown as well as her biological father Amos Knight, who is 96 years young. Together, they provided Linda with a foundation of love, guidance, and unwavering support.
Linda received her education in the Kansas City Missouri School District where she graduated from Central High School in 1968.
On September 19, 1978, Linda was united in marriage to Morris Anthony Clay Sr., from this union their beautiful baby boy Morris Anthony Clay Jr. was born, whom she treasured. He was her greatest joy, her proudest accomplishment and the center of her world. This marriage was later dissolved. On May 22, 1982, Linda married Michael L. Carter, Jr., They were married for 24 years before the marriage dissolved.
Linda accepted Christ at an early age. She Loved, Loved, Loved her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. Always sharing the word with so many. She was deeply rooted in her faith, and her faith in God never wavered. Linda was a member of Greater Corithian Church under the leadership of Pastor Raymond Davis. She later joined Friendship Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor James A. Terrance, Jr., She Loved her some Pastor Terrance and did not like missing Sunday Worship Service or her Sunday School class. She adored the teaching style of Dr. Blue and Minister Rickie Walker. She was an active member and was dedicated to the Greeters Ministry.
Linda was baptized by her cousin, Rev. Atwood Williams, Jr. of The Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church on December 11, 2022. This was a “Special Baptismal Service designed solely for the purpose of Linda rededicating her life to the Lord. Family and Friends gathered to witness this joyous occasion.
From 1969-1973, Linda was briefly employed at Mobile Oil Company and John Deere. She then began employment with SWB/ATT/Lucent Tech from August 1979 until she retired in March of 2003. Linda dedicated 25 years of her life to this organization. After retirement Linda also worked for Bukaty for a short period of time.
Linda loved spending time with her family. She had a close and special bond with her son Morris and enjoyed her daily talks with him. They would talk every day, just checking in on each other as well as other family members and friends. Linda had beautiful grandchildren who adored her, they affectionately called her “Grandma Carter” She loved hosting Family Thanksgiving dinners for the last 20-plus years and always had a family game on standby to play. She loved dinning out and trying new restaurants with family and friends, especially “Taco Tuesdays at Margaritas.” Linda loved to eat crab legs, loved sweets, and could make the “Best Apple Cobbler EVER” She enjoyed faithfully getting her hair done every two weeks, she loved to travel. Linda loved to 2-step and taught all her siblings how to dance. She loved playing cards, especially Bid Whist and Spades, going to the movies and had a passion for shopping. Linda had Class and Style and loved to dress; she took great pride in always looking her best! She enjoyed studying her Bible study lessons, visiting historic sites throughout the city, like Union Station especially during Chiefs season, and The Negro League Baseball Museum. She loved her Kansas City Chiefs. She enjoyed watching her soap operas, i.e., Young and The Restless and Beyond The Gates. Linda had a love for life and lived it to the fullest.
Linda had such a warm and caring heart and will be remembered for her radiant smile, her unwavering love for family, her strong faith, and the genuine kindness she extended to everyone that was blessed to know her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and in the hearts of those who loved her so much.
Linda started a Monday morning prayer call with her siblings and took this time in prayer extremely serious. She didn't answer the call on Monday morning, March 9, 2026, for their sibling’s prayer call because she had answered the call from the Lord.
She leaves to forever cherish her memories, her son; Morris (Tamara) Clay, her Father; Amos Knight of Kansas City, MO., siblings; Raechard (Rosalind) Brown, of Raytown, MO., Stephanie Woods, Julia Brown, Phillip (Diane) Brown, and Vincent Brown Sr., all of Kansas City, MO., grandchildren; Taylor Clay, Justin Clay, Mariah Clay, Skyla Clay, and Malaya Clay, Godson; Bryant Weems II, all of Kansas City, MO., nieces, nephews, cousins, a host of other family members, relatives and friends.
