Lois Stevens was born on June 12, 1943 in Jefferson City, MO to the union of Alfred and Bertha Ramey, who preceded her in death. She was a beloved mother, grandmother affectionately known as “G-Ma,” a sister, aunt and loyal friend, Lois went home to be with the Lord on December 9, 2021. Lois was considered the matriarch of the family. When anyone was in need, she was always there to lend a helping hand.
Lois accepted Christ into her life at a young age and was baptized at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Lois graduated 5th in her class from Manual High School, class of 1961, where she studied vocational dressmaking. In 1961 she united in marriage and to this union had two daughters, Constance and Caren.
Early in her career she worked at the Federal Reserve Bank. She later went to work in the telecommunication industry and after 29 years of service she retired from Western Electric/Lucent Technologies. Upon her retirement her plan was to enjoy life, travel, hangout with her grandkids and friends. Even after retiring she would still be up all night, as if she still had a job working the night shift. You could call her anytime of the night, but everyone knew not to call her before 11am. If you did, you would get the raft of Lois, which was not pleasant if you were on the other end of the line. Lois was an active member of the Communication Workers of America Union as a Union Steward and was also a Treasurer for her Eastern Star chapter.
In the mid 90’s when casinos came to Kansas City you could find Lois there with her mother and sisters playing on the slot machines or as she would say “the one arm bandits.” She also enjoyed playing cards from solitaire and gin rummy to spades and bid whist, she sometimes hosted card game nights. She also loved playing backgammon and board games, specifically connect four. She loved to travel, from road trips to cruising, with Alaska being her favorite. Another pastime of hers was going fishing, if it had a body of water she was there. Lois was a great cook and the way she showed her love was to have big family get togethers, like family dinner and everyone had to come.
Lois is preceded in her death by her parents Alfred and Bertha Ramey; brother Alfred “June” Ramey Jr; and grandson Cariell Collins.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories, her two daughters, Constance Thornton, Caren and her husband Carl Collins; two grandchildren LaConda and her husband Randy Conrad, Marcus Thornton; three great grandchildren Kameron Conrad, Mackenzie Thornton, Lauren Conrad; four sisters Betty Robinson, Carrol Faulkner, Sharon Dew, Denise Ramey; two brothers Richard Ramey, Donald Ramey and a host of nephews, nieces, extended family and dear friends.
She will long be remembered as a generous, giving, loving person who brought life and humor to any room she entered.
