Lolita Louise Bailey-Taylor was born on March 10, 1940, to Mildred Adams-Bailey and Fredrick Louis Bailey. She was raised in Argentine, Kansas, where she attended and graduated from Sumner High School.
After high school, Lolita pursued her passion for caregiving by attending St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, where she earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certification. She began her professional career at Tension Envelope before going on to dedicate 35 years of service at Research Medical Center. Throughout her career, she was known for her compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to helping others.
Following her retirement, Lolita continued her lifelong mission of service by volunteering with organizations such as Hope Outreach Bible Study, Hope Family Care, and the Gem Theater. She found great joy in giving back to her community and making a difference in the lives of others.
In her spare time, Lolita loved to cook, sew, listen to the blues, and most importantly, spend time with her family. She had a generous spirit and a heart full of love, always opening her home to anyone in need of a meal or a place to stay. Often known as “Momma,” “Auntie Lo,” and “Grandma,” she played a nurturing role in the lives of many.
On April 14th Lolita passed peacefully in the presence of family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrick and Mildred Bailey; her children, Michael Sheppard and Fredrick Bailey-Barnes; her siblings, Maxine Bailey, Arthur Bailey Sr., Fredrick Bailey Jr., William Bailey, Lela Hall, Howard Bailey, and James Bailey; and her grandchildren, Kortez Jimnez, Daunte Jimnez, and Marcus Jimnez; and her best friend of over 60 years Sandy Walker.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory three daughters, Tammy Roland, Stephanie Lasswell (Jason), and Ebony Williams, along with a host of grandchildren, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.
Lolita will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
